Rough Cut

We pretty much have our rough cut finished with the images from our storyboard in place of the actual band footage, we have been unable to film our band scenes this week due to the Christmas school concert being on. We are definitely going to film when we get back to school after the Christmas holidays! We could have done it in the holidays but we either need to use the drama room or the hall in school and we are not able to come into school when they school holidays are on. This means that we will be able to get it done as soon as we come back to school in January. We have put all of the shots together and we are quite pleased with how it looks at the minute. Obviously it has no edits in yet and we are quite confident that our music video will look good when we add them in after finishing our shooting of the band scene. We are currently watching the video through and checking that all of our shots fit together and that we have no continuity errors. We spotted a slight one where Greg ran down a hill and then the camera was on the other side when the next shot was shown, we have sorted this out and there is no longer a continuity error, we will check this again when we have finished our band shooting. I will upload our 'rough rough' cut tomorrow; after the first week that we get back we should have our final rough cut and then we will continue with editing and then we will have our final one so it should be too long before we are finished our music video and then we will focus on the print based products that we have began recently.

Progress

This is an image of our work in progress, we are piecing together the parts of the chase scenes and cutting them so only the parts we want are shown, the storyboard images are being added in so when we get the band scene filmed it is only a matter of placing the pieces of it where the images are and then adding the appropriate edits to give the best effects, tomorrow we are going to add the music in to ensure all timing is correct.

Rough Cut

We are currently producing our rough cut, we have not yet filmed our band scenes due to let downs by the cast and room availability, however we aim to get this filmed at the beginning of the week, in the mean time to ensure we do not let the lack of filming affect us we are piecing together the rough cut and placing images from the storyboard of the band where we think the band scenes might go, I will upload an image of our progress in Adobe Premiere Pro onto my blog soon. Also as always we are thinking of the ideology we are portraying and ideas for the print based products. We are quite happy with the Magazine advert that i previously uploaded so we think we are going to keep that and put the image in the middle; however things may change and when we add the picture and we don't feel like it looks as good as it could we will change it and choose different colours and typography etc. We have thought about doing a similar colour scheme on our other print based products to show the link between them. But.. although it is early days yet for the print based products so we are prioritising our rough cut over these for the time being.

Updates

We are aware that we should have our rough cut done by now, however we have had trouble with our shooting as when we have been able to film the rooms have been full, meaning that we can't use them. We are currently looking through the chase scene shots that we filmed last week and we are going through them and picking out the ones that are suitable for our music video. While we are doing this we are thinking about where each one can go in terms of the order of them and what edits we can use. We are going to use some fades in order to make it seem that he is being chased for a while. Similarly we are deciding suitable times for the band scenes to come into the video. When we have decided what clips we are going to use we are going to piece them into Adobe Premiere Pro and just put our storyboard images where the band will be, this will stop the lack of shooting preventing us from progressing on with our project. When we have finished the shooting we are going to replace the storyboard shots with the actual shots. Also we feel like piecing the video together on Adobe Premiere Pro now will help us as it will allow us to see any gaps that may appear in our video and show us if any re-shooting needs to be done. However we are confident that we have a sufficient amount of shots.

Updates

We were scheduled to film the band part of our music video today, however we are unable to do this as one of our actors can't make it, due to this problem we have decided we are going to continue filming the band part next week and will hopefully have our rough cut by the end of next week. We are sorry for any inconveniences.
Yesterday we finished filming the chase scenes which means that we can upload them onto Adobe Premiere Pro to begin putting them together and adding the sound on top. We have shot plenty of different chase scenes with many different camera shots such as close-ups, long shots, point of view shots, establishing shots etc.
Although all is well we have encountered a problem which means that we cannot upload our shots onto Adobe Premiere Pro as they are too large; this means that we need to convert them to a different format which will be suitable for the editing. While we have been shooting we have been thinking of where edits can be added in and what kinds of edits to use. Due to the fact that we are using a chase scene we have decided that some fades will be necessary as fades show the passage of time which we want to show in our music video, however we realise that things might look different on screen and we will decide what edits to use when we have finished all shooting and have uploaded them. In the mean time while our file are being converted we will continue thinking about our print based products.
We are pretty certain that we are going to use the magazine advert which is black and red, we think that the gradient used between the colours is very effective and the black typography is very eye catching. But this decision is not certain and we will probably try a few other different options just to make sure we get the best one we can.

Shooting

Me and Greg shot the remaining part of the chase scene yesterday, we had to stop early due to the weather as it started raining and we were filming outside, we do have a significant part of it done.Tomorrow we are filming the band part which means that we will have all of the shots we need to make our music video. We are currently uploading our footage that we have onto Adobe Premiere Pro. The shooting went okay but we will check that everything is suitable when we watch it on the computer. We haven't had many problems while shooting except from having to stop early due to bad weather. We are hoping that snow will hold off for a while as this will affect us if we need to re-shoot any parts of our film. We have chosen pretty quiet times which meant that it was quite easy for us to get everything done quite quickly. Except one old lady who wasn't happy with us filming outside her house, although barelys any of the house is in our shot and it is pretty hard to shoot in a street with our getting some house in it. She started yelling at me and Greg saying there would be trouble if she saw it anywhere, although this is pretty unlikely unless we make it on to TV! We tried to explain it was for education and we are aiming to getan A level however she had no understanding of what media studies is so we had to move on to keep the piece. We are hoping to have a rough cut finished by the end of next week. We are not sure what to do as we cant find skull masks anywhere (not sure if this has anything to do with the fact it is a month later than halloween, unfortunately we shoould of thought of this around the time! So we have thought about just using make up but we are still looking and hopefully we will find some.

Shooting

We have shot the chase scene of our music video and we were scheduled to shoot the band scene and the rest of our shots today, however Greg is ill which means we cant film. Our new date to film is going to be Monday. Hopefully this means that we will have the shots for our music video and will then be able to edit. Up until Monday I will continue with the making of the magazine advert, however we really like the red and black idea that I previously posted. I will make a few more with different colour ideas and see which ones we prefer, we will then start thinking of a main image to include. The main image will probably be from one of the photos we take while we shoot our music videos, although we may change our minds and just draw one ourselves depending on what it looks like when it is on our template. I will post the different colour schemes I make on my blog to get some feedback.

Magazine Advert

I have been working on our magazine advert. We are still deciding on a picture to put on the advert but for the time being we are looking at some backgrounds and different colour schemes to use.

We like this colour scheme as the typography is black which is similar to some of their other typography and the red and black gradient will look very effective when we have decided on a photo. We like the mix of red and black as they both are quite harsh colour connoting death and evil. The red gives the idea that the band are 'dangerous'. We have made the text white which helps it stand out against the dark colours, the white will also look effective if we use the skull masks as the white in the masks will stand out and attract attention to the text; meaning the audience will see the information and will be more likely to buy the album.

Research continued

I am still looking at Gregs preliminary research, I am looking at the album covers that he has posted.
This is a CD cover for a band called The Bronx, they are a band which makes the same genre music as Pulled Apart by Horses, this album cover is good as it is quite simple and only include one image of a vampie with blood coming out of its mouth; the blood then spells the name of the band. The use of blood is interesting as it represents danger and death, similarly the very little bit of background colour is black which also connotes evil and death; these may have been used to show the hardcore image the band wants. The target audience for this band seems to be quite specific; the genre is hardcore rock and hardcore punk, this is represented by the photo as the target audience of the band like vampires and other things similar, also they usually are associated with black which is shown in the album cover, I think that the things shown on this album cover will interest the target audience; meaning that they will buy the album. The image of a vampire may have been used to show the band are dangerous and link with the audience. We are going to use a similar idea to this and include darkish colours on our print based products; by doing this we are ensuring that the target audience will see them and be interested in the music and want to buy the products.

Research

As we are looking at print based products I have looked at Gregs initial research, this is one of Pulled Apart by Horses first single covers, the skull used in it is associated with the band a lot as they use it in merchandise as well as their print based products. The typography that is used is used a lot by the band. It is quite similar to the typography that would be used in old fashioned horror movies; this may have been chose intentionally by the band to fit in with their hardcore element. The background is black which makes the white skull stand out. The background is black which connotes evil, this links with the genre of music the band makes. The faint white lines may have been used to give an old-fashioned look; similar to that of an old cinema, this give a good effect and makes the cover look very good.

This next cover, is for the single "High Five, Swan Dive, Nose Dive", which is the second single from Pulled Apart by Horses debut album. It is very interesting as it has a man in a hoody, we are not shown his face which makes us curious as unsure as this is associated with crime. The back of the mans jacket is actually the CD cover, the typography used is similar to that of the first CD cover which is similar to an old horror movie; they will have used the same typography so the audience can associate between them. The background image is just a normal room which may have been used to suggest that the band are average people. The image of the skull in the left hand side is similar to the first CD cover which again shows a link between them.

Single Cover

We are still thinking of our print based products whilst deciding on our practical project. Although we are making an album cover too we have thought about the single cover, we will use the same typography which will show the link between the products. However we will take a photo of the skull masks in different arrangements and patterns, we will then decide which one we prefer and create different drafts with different colour schemes. We aim to keep the colour schemes and photo ideas similar which will allow the audience to be able to tell that the print based products are linked with the album. The skull masks will be used for the single cover as they are in the video and the album cover will include something that is related to the band.

We have got the idea for our single cover from hard fi killer sounds cover. We like this idea but might use some different colour and obviously our skull masks.

New plan

So as you will have seen we have been discussing our options and we have decided that we are going to go with the contingency plan, this will mean that we will not being filming our music video in a woodland area, we will now film the chase in a suburban area and some of it in the drama studio at school, as we have realised that we will not be able to get a drum kit in the woods. This means that we will have a black room which we think will look effective as it will allow the skull masks to stand out and will create a better effect. We have decided to change the plan as this setting will be easier to get to. Also we willl have no trouble getting a drum set into our location; this means that it will be easier to re-shoot if we need to, similarly it will be easier for our actors to get to also the time of day wont matter to much as we will be able to change the lighting. We are going to buy the skull masks soon and film at the start of the next week.

Updates

Although our main focus is to get the filming done very soon we are still thinking about the print based products. I am in the process of thinking of different ideas for our magazine advert. We both like the black background with white typography but we want to create some different ideas to see if any other ones look better. We are having trouble finding the typography as we just copied and pasted the white typography from their website. We have thought about emailing the band and asking them to email us the typography so if we don't find a different font we will do this. So, we are going to use the previously posted magazine advert as a template and keep the same information. We have used the quote 'Will rip your heart out' from Q magazine; we thought of this as the band is called Pulled Apart by Horses so it suggested that they are very good and do what they aim to. We will post our new ideas for magazine advert.

Filming

We are arranging when we are going to film our music video, we are going to film our music video over 2 days, this will allow us to get the inital filming done in the first day and then some extra shots the second day to ensure we get all of the shots we need. However, both me anf Greg have jobs that we both have to go to, so it all falls on if work allows us to have time off, but the plan is to do the filming on a Sunday and a Monday hopefully eirther the 13th and 14th of November or 19th and 20th.We will need around 9 different actors ( 4 band members, 4 skull dancers and the man being chased) as well as me ang Greg. However in order to reduce the amount of people we need for actors me and Greg may do some acting, we have thought that it might be good if Greg takes the trole of the man being chased as we know how we want it to look. We will both film some partsof the video and help each other direcr it. Our original idea for the music video was to have the band playing in the woods however it is going to be difficult to get a drum set into the woods. If this is not feasible we will change the storyline slightly and have it in a suburban area but still include the same ideas.
We are still in the process of creating our magazine advert and sorting out ideas for the digipak. I am close to finishing the magazine advert draft 2 and I will upload it shortly, we still havent decided on the image that will be on the magazine advert however we are deciding the colour schemes and typgraphy for the time being.

Advert

This is our template for our Magazine Advert, we are now going to decide on an album cover or image to put in the middle of the advert. I will upload our drafts and then decide on a final one. We struggled to get the typography but eventually got it and we are very pleased with our template. We have quoted from music magazine which is effective as it will show people that it is a well acknowleged album and a lot of people like it. It has all of the information that we saw on other magazine adverts in our research.

Magazine Advert

I am currently creating the magazine advert, i have done a sketch of one and i will scan this in and post it on my blog at some point, I am now working on photoshop to create the final one, I will post these on my blog as I do them.

Magazine Advert

I'm going to start designing our Magazine Advert I will post some of my ideas soon, My first idea is with the background black and the Pulled Apart by horses original typography in wite and the information such as release dates and ratings at the bottom, also in white. I am going to create some more; experimenting with different colours and images; in order to see which one gives the desired image of the band and portrays the correct ideas.
We still have not decided what image we are going to put on the album poster, we will make that decision soon and add our ideas to our blogs. We have completed the storyboard and are going to finish it off and upload it as soon as possible.

Storyboard

Me and Greg are now in the process of making a storyboard for our video, we are going to discuss the proper storyline for our video and come up with our final ideas, this will allow us to decide on our magazine and digipak ideas as we want them to link together so the audience can associate all of them with our band. We are thinking about filming our music video in the woods, the stroyline is going to be a man running from something that the audience never sees; an unknown presence. The man then gets to the woods where we see the band playing the song and people dancing in red and black with skull masks on.

We are going to use a range of shots in order to help the audience understand what is going on, we will use point of view shots so that the audience realise that someone is chasing the man, similarly we will use close ups to get the audiences attention on certain things that are important. Mid shots and long shots will be used to create certain effects and allow the audience to see what is going on.

Magaine Front Covers

This magazine coverv follows the codes and conventions of many music magazine covers; it has the main image of the band and the band name, the title of the magazine is at the top and other magzine stories are around the sides, this give the band a lot of attention and it is the first thing that someone will see when they look at the magazine, for our magazine front cover we will do something similar to this, and follow the codes and conventions by having the image of the band in the middle. This magazine cover will be similar to the one we will produce as the 'Kings of Leon' have 4 people and so does 'Pulled apart by Horses' however the way in which the band is portrayed may be slightly different as both bands make slightly different genre music; Kings of Leon's genre is Alternative Rock and Pulled Apart by Horses is mainly post-hardcore indie rock and experimental rock.
This magazine advert is also good and the bands personalities are portrayed; we like this idea as Pulled Apart by Horses do have a very strong personality which is shown in many of their songs, we also like the idea of the band name being at the top but we feel that it being over the picture it will be more effective and noticable. The other stories in the magazine are still around the sides which is a good technique that we will definately use.  The background of Take Thats image is white; this may be because Take That are a pop band which aren't really shown to be wild and controversial. For this reason we will use a darker background which will reinforce the controversial personalital portrayal of Pulled Apart by Horses
We found this cover very good as the effects used look like the man is smashing the sign; this man is linked with one of the smaller stories which goes against the codes and conventions as the main image is usually linked with the main story which seems to be Muse. The background of the image is dark, rather than white which makes it representative of the bands usually shown in 'Q' magazine, it also makes the bands seem more associated with the genre of music as it is sometimes dark.
This magazine front cover is very good, I especially like the use of the panthers as it creates and edgy effect, it gives the idea that Lily Allen is very cool and not scared of anything. Something like this would be very good in our frot cover, however it wouldn't be feasible to get panthers! This advert has the title in the middle which we will use; and the other stories that are included at the top bullet pointed, this looks good however I feel like it will make our magazine seem and look better as we will be following the codes and conventions and many people will immediately realise our magazine is a music magazine as they will be used to seeing a similar layout.
This magazine is 'Kerrang' magazine which focuses more on rock bands, this follows the codes and conventions by having a main image of the band but has different images at the bottom which would usually take attention away from the main story but the effective typography and the fact that they are pulling faces attracts the audiences attention to the image.
The photo used in this magazine cover is very effective; the fact that the band have their legs crossing around eachother could connote that they are very close, also the stance is effective as it makes them seem 'ready for anything'. The red typography used to write 'AAARRRGH!' is effective is it is eye catching, also the colour red connotes danger which is good as suggests that the albums will be dangerously 'loud' which the demographic in which the magazine is aimed at will find interesting.

We have also been looking at front covers on album packs, similarly to album adverts these often have similar structures, they have the picture of the band in the middle, the band name in the middle and other stories included in the magazine around the edges, this gives the band the main attention. It is important that the image of the band is good and represents them well because this could be the first time that a new audience sees the band and they should make a good impression; in terms of what they want to portray themselves as.

We have found that the genre of the music is very important when making the magazine cover and album pack, the ideas portrayed in the songs will have to link with the ideas on the front covers.

Magazine Album Covers

This album advert is quite random as it has images of ballerinas, it goes against the codes and conventions as typically a album cover would include an image of the band. It includes ratings by 'Q' magazine and by 'NME' magazine which will make people want to go and see it as this makes people realise it is good. the words 'new album' are in a simplistic typgraphy and in capitals which is effective as it catches peoples eye. The black background would connote evil and death but the darkeness is counteracted by a simple, innocent looking photo. The band name is very large which will attract alot of attention.

I like this album cover as it looks like it is metal, this is effective as it makes it seem edgy and different, where normal album covers are just on paper, it has all the information needed on an album advert such as date and what it is available on, such as CD and download etc. It also doesnt follow the codes and conventions by not having an image, instead it has the bands logo which is also an idea me and Greg like, the logo is well known by many people and so it is easily recognised that the poster is for the Foo Fighters. This album poster also has on what songs are included in the albums which will get more people to buy the album as they will want to listen to the pre relseased songs.
I find this album cover quite boring as it is just plain black which connotes death and evil, it also has fire which connotates hell and pain, the fire is effective as it portrays the band to be wild and not afraid. The image of the electric guitar is good as it shows immediately that the band is a rock band, similarly the band logo is in black typography with white around which makes it stand out, the black writing and background tells us that the band is quite dark.
I especially like this album poster as it is very simple but detailed. I like the cream background which gives a calm sense, this band usually make indie rock music which is a lot more calm than hard rock that Pulled Apart by Horses make, this is why i feel that we couldnt use a similar background colour as it would take away the craziness away from our band. The image is very good and again goes against the stereotypical album poster as it does not include an image of the band, the image is old fashioned and looks liek a playing card as it has the king of clubs sign; this may of been used to give the impression that the band takes risks. The image is very effective as it will stick with the audience as it will makes them remember it as it is unusual.
This stereophonics is very good as the image is the whole background, it does not have a background colour but the sea is a main part, this is good as it gives a peaceful image, the band are sitting at a table which is unusual as album adverts usually have the band standing up. This album cover is good as it includes all of the usual information such as the release date etc. The Band name and album name typography is very simple which is still effective as it is noticeable, the keep calm and carry on is well known so people will remember this as it is a well known phrase.

We have been looking at magazine album adverts, we have found that many of them are quite similar; with a picture or image either of the band or of a symbol that will be recognised as the band. Stereophonics have a picture of the band and the band name above them, the typography is quite simple but the picture is effective as it is unusual. Kasabian on the other hand have an old fashioned image and the band name in the middle, this is effective as the band name is the first thing we see when we see their advert. Many album covers follow the same codes and conventions e.g. image, band name at the top or in the middle and the album name and details are often smaller which is why it is essential to have an eye catching image and a good band name so that people look at the advert for longer and actually read the information.

Our treatment

Music video

Me and Greg have discussed our storyline for the video, we are now discussing the storyline and creating our treatment.

New plan

Unfortunately hannah has decided to drop media, so she has left me with a big decision on what to do next, it would be very hard to do this task without hannah as it was a house that she knew etc. Therefore I am going to join Gregs who is doing a music video to a song by the band 'pulled apart by horses', he is still in the process of making up his narrative so we are thinking of integrating some aspects of  horror into his music video. I am going to look at gregs research and do some myself so I fully understand the ideas that he wants to portray. Many thanks to greg for letting me join. This is exciting news and i am pleased to be working with someone new, So in the words of PABH this is truly "Awesome, Radical and Totally Bodacious!"

On 17 May 2008, they headlined Nastyfest IX in Leeds to a packed audience of onlookers where a chaotic and injury stricken performance took place involving members of the band being sent to hospital. Their music is a combination of heavy riff based guitar work infused with disco licks and pounding drum rhythms. They then released songs on the website and realeased their 'Tour Traxx EP'. On 21 March, Transgressive Records announced the release of a strictly limited 12" vinyl release titled 'Live At Leeds' to be released on Record Store Day 17 April in the UK. The record would appear to borrow the idea from The Who classic album with artwork and packaging being similar.

Location

This is where we are going to film our trailer, it is the same place that we shot our opening sequence last year. We are usuing the same location because we feel that it will be good as the already established audience will recognise it. Also we feel like it will be more effective than using a different location.

Magazine

This is one of the photos we we were thinking of using for the magazine front cover, we also thought of having a photo of just the clown. We felt that this photo was good as it showed the clown in the background of the film with the girl looking very scared, the fact the the clown is infront of the door signifies that there is no-where for her to go. Similarly the clown in the background gives the idea that he is always there and she cant escape him.
This was the other route we were going to take, the photo of the clown by himself, we also thought this was good as it showed the clown very close up which is quite scary, the shot is a low angle shot which connotes that the clown is superior to everyone viewing it. The clown also has the keys which gives him the characteristics of being sneaky and always there. We feel like this image will ;eave the audience suspicious and wanting to know what the clown does.

These are our practice ideas, we liked these but thought that our final one fits better with the ideas we are trying to show

Logo 1:
Didn’t like the white background as it signifies purity and we did not want to connote that as it is a typical horror film.
The clown picture is not the same style as that is in the film so we did not want to use this in our logo as it is more of a jester type clown, and the clown in our film is more horrific scary clown.
We liked the horror drippy font that we used for our final logo better as it links more, however we did like this font as it had a clown carnival feel to it, but we did not feel as if it connoted horror.
Logo 2:
We found a different image that we stuck with through out the process of the designing of the logo.  We found that this image provokes more of a reaction to the audience as it is generally more scarier.
This logo has the carnival typography but we have decided we like the other typogrqaphy.
Logo 3:
We like this typography however we feel that we like the red one better than white as red connotes danger which is more effective than the white which has opposite connotations.
Logo 4:
We like this logo however in our research we found out that many film logos have a small slogan or tagline, this logo doesn’t have one and we decided we wanted to use one
Logo 5:
We thought up the slogan ‘where the fun begins’ which we think is good as clowns are supposed to be fun and in circuses etc, our slogan is ironic as our film is scary not fun.
The slogan on this logo is big and we felt that it needed to be smaller although we like this one.
The writing is white however we feel that it works because it brings out the white in the clowns face and brings attention to the image of the clown in the logo too.

Branding ideas

This was our final decision for our logo. We used this font as it has drips of blood coming off which gives a scary feel to it, we also found that quite a lot of horror films use a similar font. This typography fits into the codes and conventions of a horror film typography. We choose red as it connotes danger and blood. The font is in capitals, we chose to do this as they make the font and theme seem more serious, as bold and in your face. We chose white for the slogan as it brings out the white in the clowns face and draws attention to it which makes it look scary as when someone is very white it looks different which reinforces the idea of the clown not being like a human. The slogan is 'where the fun begins' we thought this would fit well as clowns are usually in circuses which are meant to be fun, this is ironic as we know that the clown is evil, not fun.

The Mangler Reborn Poster

The Mangler reborn poster has also took a different approach, instead of sticking with the red typography from the first mangler, it is now a silvery colour which signifies the machinery and evil that is shown in the trailers, the colours also link with the colours of the room in which the new, state of the art computer is shown to the pupils, it is effective in this poster how we don't see the manglers full face, only his eye. This is spooky as it adds to the mystery around him as we are unsure what he is and what has happened to him. The spiral of spikes around him reinforce the idea of death and torture that has already been signified in the trailer. At the top of the trailer it looks as if there is a cloudy sky, this is significant as bad weather usually signifies that something bad is going to happen in horror films; this is one of the very effective codes and conventions of horror films that is followed a lot.

The Mangler Reborn

The Mangler reborn takes a different approach to sequels, the story doesn't follow on the the washing machine that killed people. In this film the story line is that there is a new computer system in a college and the mangler infects it with his evil and the people that use it get killed, I feel that some aspects of the trailer are quite effective, the typography has changed from being red to being in a digital text and when the words come up it is as if they are being typed, this is quite spooky which is effective. This trailer is very different as it starts of in an everyday school where the pupils are being told about the new computer system. Then we see it change when the school gets the 'mangler virus' then we see the man who is responsible for it with equipment all around him which we are unsure about, this adds to the sense of mystery around the mangler. We then see a lot of destruction happening around the school and to the people that go there. this is effective as it makes the audience want to see what happens to the mangler and whether he gets caught.
This sequel is good as it will already have an established audience - the people who watched the previous film. This maybe what allowed the producers to be able to change the storyline slightly and expand on what 'The Mangler' is capable of.

The Mangler Poster

This poster is quite simple in terms of horror movie posters but I feel that it is quite effective as it is closely linked with the ideas of the trailer, we see a hand in the middle which looks like it is struggling to get out, we realise that this is the hand of someone who is being killing by the machine, in the dark background we also see bits of machinery around which reminds us of the terrible machine we have seen originally in the trailer. Similarly to the trailer there is red typography which has connotations of danger, death and evil etc.

The Mangler

The Mangler | Robert Englund | Ted Levine | Tobe Hooper | Movie Trailer | Review
The start of the trailer is very effective as it jumps straight in by letting the audience know what the film will be about -  a machine that could be haunted. The eerie music at the start is very effective as it immediately lets the audience know that this movie will be scary and involve horror. The machine is obviously not human which creates a more effective type of horror as we get the impression that humans will not be able to stop it. At the beginning we see this man at the top who has a part of him in the machine, he suspiciously looks over the machine, this camera angle and voice over are effective as they scare the audience, the man is shown to have metal legs or something that causes him to walk strangely. The names and credits on the trailer are in red typography that is very effective. We may use a typography similar to this in our trailer as we think it is very effective. The drops of blood that are shown to the audience when the men are talking about the machine connote death which is happening in this movie. The voice-over mentions that 3 masters of horror have created this machine, this gives the impression that they are killing people via a machine which means they cannot be caught. The audience are left thinking what is going to happen? Who will be killed next? these are questions that they want answered after seeing the trailer which means that they will want to see the film.

CHANGE OF PLAN 2

We attempted to film our practice music video today and when we imported it into Adobe Premiere pro we realised that it didnt look very good and we werent sure whether to follow the codes and conventions of rap music videos, this lead us to change our minds and are now going to do a trailer again, I will continue my research that is at the start of my blog into trailers, sequel trailers and the posters. We regret our decision to change to a music video as we feel we have wasted a lot of time where we could have practiced and put together a teaser trailer for the sequel of our film 'FUN HOUSE' however we will continue researching over the summer holidays and think of some ideas for our trailer fro 'FUN HOUSE 2' then when we return to school we will put together a practice trailer and continue with our filming.

Its nothin'

"It's Nothin" - Jay Cro (Treatment/Producer/AD) from Adrienne Williams on Vimeo.

We have also found this video which has gave us some ideas for effects to use, also it has gave us some ideas on different ways to add in cartain camera angles and techiniques. The main effect is the split screen, this is a code and convention of hip-hop/rap music videos, it is also used in J-lo's song control myself with Ll cool J. We may use this effect when editing our final piece.

Deadly Medly

"Deadly Medley" - Black Milk x Royce da 5'9 x Elzhi (Treatment/Producer/AD) from Adrienne Williams on Vimeo.

We are still researching and we have found this video which has gave us a few ideas on things to do in our final piece; such as the different camera angles and effects.

Practice music video decision

We have decided to usethe below song, we are going to film one day next week, we have our ideas and we are going to use some of the special effects available on Adobe Premiere Pro to get the effect of the Fast Lane video that I recently posted. We are going to so the video from around 53 seconds to 1.20. When we have filmed and edited our practice video we will post it on our blogs.

Music Video

BizzMan Live in the Studio! by BizzMan & Connor P

We have decided to use this song for our practice music video and we may use it in our final video. We were not sure if it would be copyright to start with as it uses a sound effect from Beyonce's song Girls (who run the world). We have listened to it and we now know that the sounds have been edited and therefore it is not copyright. However we are going to get a letter from them to show their permission for us using this song. We are now deciding what we are going to put in our movie.

Fast Lane

Eminem & Royce Da 5'9 (Bad Meets Evil) - "Fast Lane" [TekniqueTheKingpin.com] from Teknique The Kingpin on Vimeo.

We have been looking at this video and we think we could do something like this, we feel it would give our music video a twist and makes it unusual as it doesnt follow the codes and conventions of normal music videos. In our practice run we will attempt to do this and decide whther we are going to use this technique or not.

Music video idea

We both like the first song however we are not sure whether there may be some sounds that are copyrited so we will have to get in touvh with the people and find out. However we may not use that song. We are currently listening to the songs and thinking of ideas for the videos for each song, we should have a deicsion made soon. When we have a decision we will start to plan our practice piece.

Freestyle

BizzMan & Dano - Mike Lowery Freestyle! by BizzMan & Connor P

We have just listened to this song and think it is quite good as it follows the codes and conventions of the songs that we have researched however we think it is quite fast and it would be hard to do a video and think of a storyline to do.

Ipod

BizzMan - iPod by BizzMan & Connor P

We have had an idea for this song, we could use a storyline in the video of a person who feels he should be famous just carrying on with his everyday life and seeing what happens etc, we could use small clips of his everyday life and then have something big happen at the end. But still we may just use another one of the songs I have posted we shoudl have a decision soon.

CD is dead

BizzMan - CD is Dead (remix) by BizzMan & Connor P

This song has been made entirely by them so we may use this, however it is very short and we would have to decide what to use in our video for this song, if we do not use this song for our final music video we may use it for our practice run and then see if we have any ideas after doing that. We are still thinking of the route we want to go down for our music video.

Unorthodox

BizzMan & Connor P - Unorthodox (Full Version) by BizzMan & Connor P

We like this song and might use it for our music video, however the tune in the background is the proper song which may be copywrited which means that we will not be able to use it; unlike the lazy song where the backing tune is played on the guitar by one of the people singing it.

Lazy Song

BizzMan & Connor P - Lazy Song (Full Version) by BizzMan & Connor P

We think we might use this song for our music video, we like this song and have had some ideas for what to include in our video, however we are not certain yet we may use a different song.

Potential music

BizzMan & Connor P - One step from reality (preview) by BizzMan & Connor P

Potenial music for our video

BizzMan Live in the Studio! by BizzMan & Connor P

Update

We now have permssion to use one of the songs what we have been looking at. We are still deciding what song we are going to use. We have been thinking of things to use for our videos and what we are going to include.
We are also going to begin planning what we are going to use in our practice run and what we will include in the video for this. Our research has gave us some ideas however we are not sure whether we want to follow the codes and conventions of hip-hop/rap music videos or go against them and create something unusual, it is most likely that we will follow them and portray certain stereotypical ideas in order to appeal to a lot of people.

Jungle

Professor Green ft Maverick Sabre - Jungle - 2011 found on Hip-Hop

This song is by Professor green who is a rapper that is very famous in the rap and hip-hop genre, this song is giving the idea that the streets are like a jungle where many bad things happen, there is a line in the song that says ‘you wouldn’t want to spent a night in this jungle’ meaning a lot of people wouldn’t like it because it is quite dangerous and a lot of crime happens. It says a lot ‘right here in this jungle’ etc. This is giving the idea to the target audience which seems to be teenagers as there are many featured in this video that there is a different life than being in a bad place and committing crimes. It is very effective that they are actually there in ‘the jungle’ when singing about it as it relates them to it and with the people which adds a good effect as it makes what he is saying seem more realistic.

Game Over

Tinchy Stryder, Giggs, Professor Green, Tinie Tempah, Devlin, Example, Chipmunk - Game Over found on Club

This is a song that is done by many artists in the genre in which we are going to explore in our music video.

NO GOOD

NO GOOD Video - ARTISTdirect Music

This music video is quite simple in the sense that it doesn’t include anything else but him being in his house with a lot of things going on around him. He may have used the effect of furniture and things moving around by themselves to give the idea that things are controlled by something else and he can’t control things. The chorus of the song is effective as it says –
That's no good to me,
I don't no need nobody.
(That's no good to me.)
Don't need no-one
That's no good to me.
That's no good to me,
I don't no need nobody.
(That's no good to me.)
Don't need no-one
That's no good to me.
These words are backed up by the video as he is in the video by himself in his house with a lot of things happening around him.

Ideas for our final piece

We are now deciding on what song we are going to use. Hannah has posted some potential music and we are now thinking of what we can do in our music video, what kind of video we are going to create and what ideas we are going to portray; whilst bearing in mind how we can link our CD cover to the ideas that we are going to show.

a grand dont come for free

‘A grand don’t come for free’, this CD cover is from the streets but is an earlier album than ‘the hardest way to make an easy living’ this CD cover only has a picture of a bus shelter; the bus shelter has purposely been made to look like it is in a run down area; this maybe the aim of the artists as they may want to suggest to a target audience that they can come far and get out of ‘the streets’. The CD cover has the same man as ‘the hardest way to make an easy living however he is dressed differently in a warmth coat. The fact that he is stood at the bus shelter maybe suggesting that he is homeless and has no where to go; this contrast with the other album cover which suggests now he has a flash car and dresses differently. ‘The streets’ name is also on a lighter which maybe used for the same reason. The typography of the album title is in lower case which they may have used to give the idea that they are just everyday people as upper case letters are used to show importance.
